Hear the screams of the crowd as brave beings race through hazardous canyon tops, and blistering heat of an artificial star. Such was today at Crag’s Run, the illustrious racing track in town. There were 12 competitors for todays champion title, and each and every racer were confident in their ultimate victory.
Unfortunately for most of them, it was not to be. Today’s course was easily the deadliest yet, with bottomless ravines and giant scorpions to contend with, as well as fellow competitors. This arsenal included the run-of-the-mill machine gun power-ups and quick-fix kits with a few surprises like a flamethrower or mine-launcher. Aside from their ordinary weaponry, this proved to be quite a sight to see.
Off the bat, one of the racers in a X-12 fell pray to a scorpion hidden beneath the sands, in the shadows of a rock. The high speed planes quickly flew past the unfortunate man, and the rest went on through the labyrinthine track to finish only the first circuit out of the standard 3. The favorite to win, Carso Mendallik, dropped behind most of the pack in a surprising concession before his strategy became clear when he picked up a mine launcher from the weapon line. The vishnu racer dispatched his opponents left and right in a savage display of precision and timing.
The rookie of the course astonished most by finishing Heat 1 far ahead of Carso. On the vid-screen, the cam-bots closed in on his face as he crossed the starting line. Sweat dotted his pale brow, and his arms were trembling. However, he was triumphant. And so he should be. The skill with which this skassi completed the first part was unprecedented, and he even set a record with time.
Eager to see how the favorite would take the thorough trouncing, the bots closed in on him, and watched his face twist in anger and pure rage. Excitement flashed through the spectators as we watched his sleek I-332 catch up to the newbie’s old and worn R-9. He didn’t figure in one of the others, who caught up with him from behind and hit him with a Concussion Bolt that knocked him off the course. The people around me gasped in shock as the predatorial plane winged down into the ravine lining the course. Only four racers were left, with the skassi, Tarik dal Cors, still well into the lead.
They crossed the line a second time, almost on each other’s exhausts, and the third and final Heat began. Tarik managed to keep the lofty position, before a huge desert cobra crashed his tail into him, and shot him back towards another competitor. They both went down in scorching heat as the final two racers went through the final stretch. The remaining human racer, Yangwey Malmasteen, took the lead through sticking on the inside, but fellow Neebu Teralst Dendey wouldn’t have any of it, and came down on him from above. Again, both planes went down, but Teralst bounced up off of the hull of his opponent, and landed in a cloud of dust at the finish line. The race was won, and it was a fantastic finish by an esteemed racer.
