Hey guys, I like to help out my fellow rpers and after reading my email today I figured a way to do just that. The following applies to windows users except those running Windows 7. If you have XP its a definite read and if you have Vista you should at least check and get back to me. Anyways: As a subscriber to several security advisory lists one in particular caught my eye. It is a major security vulnerability for the windows help program that was tested on windows XP, 2000, and I checked that widnows 7 is safe. Without running into the messy details just know that it allows a remote attacker to completely hack and pwn you. The quickest and easiest way I have found to check for and fix this is to get URL Protocol view from here: www.nirsoft.net/utils/url_protocol_view.htmlRun it and scroll down till you find the hcp protocol. If you dont find it you are safe. If its there select it and then press the red dot to disable it and you will be safe again. This is a 0day vuln which means THERE IS NO CURRENT patch. Everyone running XP,2000, and possibly other versions are ALL VULNERABLE. So my fellow RPers, you get the word earlier than others and get a chance to fix it without needing to wait for microsoft's notoriously slow updates to save you. Pass the fix on to others if you like. Cheers, Madf0x
